Isolatek International is a leading manufacturer of passive-fire resistive materials spray-applied to structural steel during the construction of commercial or industrial buildings. In 2007, the company sought to establish a warehouse and a manufacturing operation in Southern California, and chose San Bernardino because of its strategic location to the country's western markets and the incentives offered by the San Bernardino Valley Enterprise Zone.
During the first year of operation, Isolatek International filed hiring tax credits for two employees, saving more than $7,000. This year the company has demolished and installed equipment to comply with the pending SCAQMD Air Permit, and will file for sales and use tax credits on the equipment purchased, which will increase their savings.
These incentives allow Isloatek International to be more competitive in the marketplace and employ more people. The company plans to hire an additional 20 employees by the end of 2009.

Based in San Bernardino County just outside Fontana, California Steel Industries, Inc. is the largest manufacturer of flat-rolled steel sheet and pipe products in the western United States. The company manages a staff of nearly 900 employees, and has not had a layoff in its 25 years of operation. This record continues despite the present economic conditions, and the contraction of California's manufacturing industry by more than half a million jobs since 2001. California Steel Industries is working hard to overcome this recessionary economy, and credits some of its recent success to the company's utilization of the San Bernardino Valley Enterprise Zone.
Since October 2006, California Steel Industries has filed hiring tax credits for 66 employees, and sales and use tax credits for several pieces of equipment. The savings from these tax credits have contributed to the company's ongoing capital investment program, highlighted by a state-of-the-art $70 million reheat furnace, which is scheduled to go into operation this year. In addition, the company has been able to protect and create skilled jobs that offer competitive wages to the residents in the region.

Launched in 1980, Chaparral Motorsports is a family-owned motorcycle parts and accessories dealership with a staff of 200. The company is located within the San Bernardino Valley Enterprise Zone and has utilized its tax incentive program since 2007. In its first year, 15 percent of the company's workforce qualified for hiring tax credits.
This year in addition to hiring tax credits, the company will claim sales and use tax credits on new equipment purchased. This may double the company's savings, and dollars incurred are directed back into the business and its ability to hire and retrain employees. Taking advantage of these tax credits helps companies like Chaparral Motorsports employ more people and thrive during a challenging economy.
